Key Takeaways
- Allergy Asthma Care and Treatment provides allergy, asthma, and immunology care across nine locations throughout New York City, making specialized care accessible across the boroughs rather than concentrated in a single office.
- Our practice diagnoses and treats a full range of conditions, including environmental and food allergies, asthma, eczema, hives, sinusitis, nasal polyps, and chronic cough, using both testing and long-term treatment planning.
- Care is led by Jovany Cartagena, MSN, FNP-BC, FNP-C, alongside a team focused on identifying the actual cause of a patient's symptoms rather than only managing them.
- Our approach centers on thorough testing and a personalized treatment plan, since allergy and asthma symptoms that look similar on the surface often have very different underlying causes and require different care.
Why we exist
Allergies, asthma, and related conditions are often treated as background noise, something to manage with an over-the-counter medication and work around rather than something worth properly diagnosing. We started this practice because that approach leaves a lot of relief on the table. Persistent congestion, recurring hives, a cough that never quite resolves, or asthma that flares more than it should are often signs of a specific, identifiable cause that responds well to the right treatment, once someone actually takes the time to find it.
Our goal is to be that resource for New Yorkers, across all nine of our locations, offering the kind of thorough evaluation and ongoing care that turns vague, chronic discomfort into a clear diagnosis and an actual plan.
What we treat
Our practice covers the full range of allergy, asthma, and immunology care. On the allergy side, that includes environmental and food allergy testing, oral food challenges, hay fever, and management of anaphylaxis risk, along with allergy shots for patients whose symptoms need more than medication alone. On the respiratory side, we manage asthma with spirometry-based testing to guide treatment, and address chronic cough, post-nasal drip, and nasal congestion by identifying the specific underlying cause rather than only prescribing symptom relief.
We also treat skin and sinus conditions connected to allergic disease, including eczema, hives, contact dermatitis through patch testing, chronic sinusitis, and nasal polyps. Many of these conditions overlap and share underlying triggers, which is part of why a comprehensive evaluation, rather than treating each symptom in isolation, tends to produce better long-term results.
How we approach a visit
Testing before assuming
A lot of allergy and asthma symptoms look alike on the surface but come from very different causes. Congestion could be seasonal pollen, a dust mite allergy, a sinus issue unrelated to allergies, or some combination of the three. Rather than guessing based on symptoms alone, we rely on appropriate testing, whether that's skin or blood allergy testing, spirometry, or patch testing for contact dermatitis, to identify what's actually driving a patient's symptoms before building a treatment plan around it.
A plan built around the individual
Once we understand the cause, treatment is built around what actually fits the patient, not a single default protocol. For some patients that means medication and trigger avoidance. For others it means allergy shots, oral immunotherapy, or a referral for additional evaluation when a condition falls outside what allergy treatment alone can address. The goal at every step is a plan that's realistic for the patient's life, not just clinically correct on paper.
What I want every patient to feel leaving our office is that we actually took the time to understand what's going on with them specifically, not just handed them a prescription and moved on. Allergy and asthma care works best when it's personalized, and that starts with genuinely listening before we start testing or treating.

Care across New York City
With nine locations across the city, our aim is to make specialized allergy and asthma care genuinely convenient, not something that requires a long trip across town for every appointment, whether that's an initial evaluation, ongoing allergy shots, or a follow-up visit to adjust a treatment plan. Wherever you're coming from in NYC, our goal is to have care within reach.
When to book a visit
It's worth scheduling an evaluation if you've been managing ongoing allergy, asthma, skin, or sinus symptoms with over-the-counter treatment without lasting relief, if you've never had a proper allergy evaluation despite years of symptoms, or if you simply want a clearer, more complete picture of what's actually driving your symptoms and what your realistic treatment options are.
